Emanuel Soopaya
Emanuel Soopaya was born in 1999 in Port Louis (Mauritius). He lives and works in Rennes (France).
Emanuel Soopaya is a fibre artist. Specialised in tufting, he produces pieces inspired by landscapes, which he paints from a live model and reproduces as rugs and tapestries in his studio. His formal exploration doesn’t stop at landscapes; he draws inspiration from all forms of nature, from the shape of a rock sculpted by erosion to island cartographic data. He seeks to combine the notions of freedom, serenity, and nature with the softness of a textile work and the comfort of a home.
His brand Manu Made is dedicated to handcrafted rugs. Each rug is a unique piece, handmade in his workshop in Rennes. Emanuel Soopaya oversees every step from design to finished product, using pure sheep’s wool sourced from France or other parts of Europe, depending on the season.
