Lilia Kovka
Lilia Kovka was born in 1982 in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). She lives and works in Berlin (Germany).
Her work focuses on psychological and sociological observations and their transformation into physical space. She creates subtle, layered works in which signs and symbols occupy skin, disappear on gravestones, or become woven into nightwear. Her conceptual approach extends into sculptural work in ceramics. She is interested in the relationship between human and material, deliberately withdrawing her own presence to allow space for the ceramic’s inherent dynamics.
Lilia Kovka studied sculpture with Pia Stadtbäumer at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (Germany), and with Gregor Schneider and Tilman Wendland at the Berlin University of the Arts. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, including at Arndt Foundation in Berlin, Art Association in Arnsberg (Germany), Gallery Mathias Güntner in Hamburg (Germany), Gallery Lusvardi in Milan (Italy), Art Association in Potsdam (Germany), and the Meštrović Pavilion - Croatian Association of Visual Artists in Zagreb (Croatia).
