Isabel Monti

Isabel Monti was born in 1997 in Chicago (USA). She lives and works between Berlin (Germany) and Austin (USA).

She is a multidisciplinary artist whose work aims to hold close late loved ones. The energy that passes down photos and trinkets provides a palpable connection between the living and the dead, highlighting the magic of these objects and their spiritual nature. In her work this often leads to images that are fuzzy and hazy, oscillating between abstraction and the tangible. Over time, the painting of photos and objects has produced a series of repeated motifs which has turned into a personal lexicon of symbols for life, death, and loved ones. Together, these paintings create a visual narrative of the magnetic pull between reality and the spirit realm.

Isabel Monti studied painting in the Alfred-Düsseldorf MFA programme (Germany) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). She has had three solo presentations of her work in Berlin: “The Guests We Don’t See” at Vorfluter, “Magentaed Impressions” at Van Hofen, and “always in time” at Tapir Gallery as part of her artist residency at TAKT Berlin. She has participated in multiple group shows internationally. Her work is featured in “New American Painting” issue #165, “Finding A Memory - Fall Exhibition Catalog 2022” by I Like Your Work, and in the article “Departure from Medium” by Til Will for the “Flat Rate Contemporary 14” exhibition.
