Mauro Fariñas

Mauro Fariñas was born in 1982 in Madrid (Spain). He lives and works in Berlin (Germany).

Mauro Fariñas grew up in Spain spending his summers on the coast of Galicia, where long days were filled with collecting seashells and ocean-worn fragments. Those early encounters with the sea objects washed ashore and encrusted with salt sparked a lifelong fascination with the mysterious and transformative forces of nature. He continues today to draw from the natural world, though never in a literal sense. His work explores the quiet rhythms of the natural world: the patient climb of a slug or the folding crest of a wave. Through these gestures, he invites a return to the wonder and uncertainty of childhood, when every movement held the possibility of discovery.

After teaching for two years at Ceramic Kingdom, a community studio in Berlin, Mauro Fariñas went on to participate in art residencies in Italy and Japan, where he further broadened his experience with materials and techniques. Back in Berlin, he embraced the emerging clay scene of the city, taking part in shows at venues such as Backhaus Projects, Voo Space, Bikini Berlin, or Treptow Arena. He has set up his ceramic studio within the community of Kunsthalle Neukölln, and teaches at Peace Out Paradise studio.
