Pia Hinz

Pia Hinz was born in 1994 in Dortmund (Germany). She lives and works between Amsterdam (the Netherlands), Arles (France), and Viviers (France).

Pia Hinz’ work is a blend of sculptural installations and luminous paintings, combining diverse techniques and exhibition formats. Often space-specific, the artist’s work is meant to be understood as a reaction to its surroundings, architecture, and specific situation. She transforms spaces into colour experiences, and her interaction with space is a research of surface behaviour. Through an assembling of glass pieces and colour, she shapes interactions and behaviour of the exhibition space, giving it a new perspective.

She studied at the Textile Department of the École Duperré in Paris (France), and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Her graduation led to an invitation for an artist residency at the contemporary art space P////AKT in Amsterdam, where she went on to present three solo exhibitions. Back in France, she discovered the technique of stained glass in 2022. She exhibited her piece “Phaos” at the Musée Crozatier in Puy-en-Velay (France), and participated in Art-o-rama 2023 under the curatorship of More Projects.
